Can a fire shutter deliver high levels of security?

With high levels of security at the forefront of industrial and commercial building design, it’s important to consider the security features of doors and windows. A fire shutter is a safety device that, when installed on your commercial premises, can provide high levels of security against fire, as well as hold all the benefits of more traditional roller shutters.

Fire protection

In the event of a fire, a fire roller shutter can prevent the spread of flames for up to 4 hours. This fire resistance can not only protect people within the premises but allows staff and customers to follow your fire escape route out of the building to a safe designated area as well as protects the building’s structure and goods until emergency services can arrive.

Automatic deployment

Fire roller shutters automatically deploy in the event of a fire, on cue from a connected fire alarm system or visual beacon. Removing the need for manual activation means you do not need to rely on a fire safety officer to operate the door, streamlining your security processes in the event of a fire. Should your power fail, a battery backup can be relied upon to operate the door.

Roller shutter security

While providing fire resistance, fire shutters can also provide day to day security, with the same structural integrity as security roller shutters. The Fireguard Compact FT Range is a more compact tubular driven fire shutter, which means it can be installed in areas where a larger fire shutter is not possible such as small corridors. This enables additional protection when the premises is not in use, deterring theft and vandalism, and meets safety standards BS EN 1634-1 and BS 476 Part 22.
