Overview:

A key part of maintaining the running of a railway network is train maintenance. Network Rail is responsible for maintaining the 20,000 miles of track across the UK. In order to do this, they have a fleet of engineering trains which they use to maintain the tracks.

Network Rail’s engineering trains needed a space for their own repairs to ensure maximum performance, in a safe area to protect the engineers from other trains and the elements. Secure train sheds were created for this task; enclosed spaces providing access to all areas of the train for engineers to perform the necessary maintenance and refurbishments.

Project:

HAG was asked to replace the shutters on the train sheds to ensure safe, secure and easy access to the building for trains, equipment and engineers.

To achieve this, we selected 2 of our products; the Armourguard F1 and our horizontal sliding C door. The F1 was selected because, as an insulated roller shutter, it provides sound and heat insulation from the outside while also maintaining the necessary security. We chose to use a sliding C door for the project as it provides secure but easy access for those trains requiring repair. The end result was a sheltered train shed, designed for both the safety of the engineer and easy access for ongoing train repair and refurbishment.
