Overview:
HAG was proud to be involved in the project to transform the old café that used to greet climbers and those riding on the railway into an amazing visitors centre, Hafod Eyri, on top of the highest peak in England and Wales, Snowdon. Greeting those who dare to venture to the summit with information points and refreshing drinks and cakes the new visitors centre was opened to the public in June 2009.
The Project:
Right from the initial design through to the installation phase of the bespoke security products, HAG knew the aims of the project and our place within it. Our products are fundamental in the protection of the entire building from the extreme elements together with its individualistic security requirements to an isolated £8.4 million building. Wind speeds can reach as high as 150 mph and temperatures can be as low as -20oC at the peak so this was no normal building project.
A particular difficulty that our team had to face was securing the iconic “Window on the World”; the huge glass windows offering views of England, Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man on a clear day. However, our signature expertise in design and manufacture enabled us to supply an adapted Armourguard product to fit the brief even at 3500ft in extreme weather conditions.
Our products were designed not just to protect the building from the harsh conditions but also from any kind of intrusion during the winter when the centre is closed to the general public. To achieve this, we fitted numerous Armourguard Range roller shutters and some bespoke HAG steel door sets to finish the project with unrivalled security.
