The Wild Place Project, as part of the Bristol Zoo network, is home to many animals and critters and is a central attraction in Bristol. With the success of the project, Wild Place wanted to expand their animal collection and invest in a new giraffe enclosure, to be home to three new giraffes. As part of the build, Keynsham-based firm Dribuild hired HAG to assist with the door to the enclosure.
The project:
The 1m purpose-built giraffe home was to be constructed over 1.8 acres at Wild Place Project and needed bespoke doors to suit the needs of the giraffes. The doors needed to be sliding and, obviously, rather tall to accommodate the giraffes comfortably. HAG designed special doors in-house, that were insulated and slid to one side for easy access for the zoo keepers.
Once installed and the purpose-built home finished, the three giraffes were introduced into their new home; Gerry and Dayo came from Holland and Tom came from Germany. They settled into their new surroundings perfectly and once accustomed, the new giraffe enclosure was opened to the public.
Wild Place were really happy with the finished enclosure, and HAG were invited to the open evening with various distinguished guests including the Lord Mayor of Bristol. Since then, the giraffe enclosure has been a huge success with the public and HAG truly enjoyed being part of such a unique project.
