HAG recently fitted one of its ever popular Armourguard P2 roller shutters to the front of the premises of Computerhire South West based in Kingswood, Bristol. Computerhire Southwest is a well established and reputable supplier and repairer of computer hardware to schools, businesses and public sector organisations across Bristol. For this reason physical security is of key importance.
The company fitted the HAG roller shutter as part of extensive refurbishments that included new ceilings, flooring and shop fittings. Outside a new awning was fitted over the roller shutter both of these in the corporate brand colour of poppy red.
Ian Bird, proprietor explained: “I’m very pleased with the final look of the shop. The service from start to finish from HAG has been impressive. The HAG engineer who carried out the installation was very professional throughout”
The Armourguard range of roller shutters has been specifically designed for retail shopfronts, kiosks and showrooms. As well as its physical strength, it is punched to allow 30% vision through. This vision through is an important aspect of the design because it allows the shop to be ‘seen’ when the shutters are closed. This provides a more attractive appearance to the shop and to the high street something perceived as important to potential shoppers.
Maintaining and attractive and thriving high streets is a high priority for local councils and as such many are now specifying that shop shutters must be perforated or punched to allow see-through and be painted in an attractive colour rather than left in an unfinished galvanised state. Indeed Computerhire Southwest’s local council South Gloucestershire issued a draft document in November 2011 entitled “Design Guidance: Shopfronts and Advertisements”. This states:
“Solid external shutters are not normally acceptable, unless they are of an open design allowing the shop front to be seen through the closed shutter, and they can be mounted within (behind) the existing fascia without projecting below it. Shutter guides should either be removable or integrated into the shop front design and painted down to match.”
