The cost of a roller shutter is dependent and its dimensions (height and width); its construction and material (steel, aluminium, polycarbonate); mechanism (manual, electric, automated); and the complexity of installation (internal, external, interconnection with alarm and fire systems). A roller shutter consists of inter-connected horizontal slats (or laths) that form a rigid vertical barrier when the roller shutter in the lowered position. The inter-connections between the slats are flexible allowing the roller shutter to be opened by rolling it onto a drum mounted above the door aperture. One benefit of a roller shutter is that it can be partially lowered to meet requirements.
