The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) was created in April 2014 by the merger of the Vehicle and Operators Services Agency (VOSA) and the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). The DVSA is an executive agency of the government tasked with the responsibility of improving road safety across the UK. It does this through licensing, testing, education and enforcement. A key service provided by the DVSA is the ‘annual test’ required for most commercial heavy goods and public service vehicles to ensure that they are roadworthy and follow regulations. These ‘annual tests’ must be carried out at either one of DVSA’s Goods Vehicle Testing Stations (GVTS) or at a privately owned Authorised Testing Facilities.
Challenges and Goals
The majority of their DVSA’s testing stations were built in the 1950s and 60s and have a variety of industrial sectional and roller doors installed that require regular maintenance. A contractor with the ability and geographical reach that could provide emergency and scheduled maintenance across their 35 sites in the south of England was required.
The Solution
HAG is contracted to provide 6-monthly maintenance covering 35 premises that spread as far apart as Redruth, Hastings and Birmingham. These maintenance services are carried out against a customised plan for each site which includes inspection and replacement of worn components to provide efficient operation and extend the working life of each door. Each inspection is fully documented and doors tested to ensure they remain fully compliant with current safely regulations.
Due to the nature of the business, and the cost of the vehicles they test at their Testing Stations, security is an important consideration. Via its nationwide 24 Hour Door Repair Service. HAG is able to provide DVSA with a fast repair service against an agreed service level agreement.
