2. What is meant by industrial doors?

Industrial doors are generally larger and hardier than the standard range of roller shutters most often installed in shopfronts and offices etc. These are used extensively on larger industrial applications such as warehouses, manufacturing depots, sea ports and airports, fire stations and council owned recycling and storage facilities.

The range includes:

Each engineered for space-saving, ease of operation, reliability and an exceptionally high level of security. They come complete with a range of operation, safety devices and finishes.

3. Industrial Door Range

Roller Shutters

ROLLER SHUTTER DOORSETS (Armourguard C1 and Armourguard F1)
COMPONENTS:

insulated roller shutter industrial door

Curtain

Manufactured from galvanized steel sections as standard. For roller shutters these sections are available in choice of three thicknesses to suit the size of opening and required security level.

Operation

Offered with a varied range of chain or 3-phase electric operations. Safety equipment and features are also incorporated to protect personnel and vehicles against accidents, and prevent needless damage to your door.

Operating motor

For all electrically operated doors, a 1-phase or 3-phase motor is positioned at the top of the door which powers all of the mechanical components. An adequate power supply will be required in this general area.

Roller assembly

The roller assembly is a steel tube fitted at both sides of the end plate which is used to hold the shutter curtain. The curtain rolls around the roller assembly when in use.

Guide channels

The “U” shaped vertical sections are located at the sides of the door allowing the curtain to travel up and down smoothly and securely.

Safety brake

The safety brake prevents the door from dropping in the event of motor failure where pedestrian or vehicle access is required.

Canopy

A canopy surrounds the components of the door at high level to prevent entrapment and improve aesthetics.

Sealing system

Bottom rail seals are available that incorporate safety sensors. Bush strip can also be placed into the vertical guides to minimize heat loss.

Safety factor

In the event of an electrically-operated door meeting an obstruction when operating, sensors built within the bottom rail system are activated to disengage the door movement. Further safety devices are available dependent on requirements and operational circumstances.

Finish

Typically finished with galvanised steel as standard, or you can choose from a range of 75 standard powder coat colours. This option gives the door a strong yet aesthetically attractive finish, which is typically applied to home appliances and office furniture.

Specification of any BS or RAL colour is available, as are Plastisol (plastic coated) colours.

Overhead sectional doors

INDUSTRIAL SECTIONAL OVERHEAD DOOR (S Door)
5-bay sectional overhead industrial door installation
VERTICAL STACKING SECTIONAL (Z Door)

COMPONENTS:

Panels

Double skinned, PU-foamed steel sections with an interlocking hinged joint, offering the best weather protection.

Operation

HAG Ltd. offers a varied range of manual and electric operations for the Sectional Overhead Door incorporating a number of safety equipment and features to protect personnel and vehicles against accidents and any needless damage to your door.

Operating motor

A 3-phase motor with either a crank handle or low level hand chain operates the door in conjunction with a cable tension system incorporated at high level.

Guide channels

vertical stacking industrial door - fire station

The “U” shaped vertical sections are located at the sides of the door allowing the curtain to slide up and down securely.

Safety brake

Prevents the door from dropping in the event of motor failure where pedestrian or vehicle access is required.

Sealing system

All Z Doors have rubber seals between the door panels and surrounding the door outer edges ensuring a tight draft seal. Also as standard are rails and finger protection with warning strips.

Windows

Optional safety glass, rectangle windows, oval windows, or double glazed windows of various configurations and designs.

Safety factor

In the event of an electrically-operated door meeting an obstruction when operating, sensors built within the sealing system are activated to disengage the door movement. Further safety devices are available dependent on requirements and operational circumstances.

Finish

These doors are typically finished with galvanised steel as standard, or you can choose from a range of 75 standard powder coat colours. This option gives the door a strong yet aesthetically attractive finish, which is typically applied to home appliances and office furniture. Specification of any BS or RAL colour is also available.

Bi-folding Doors

BI-FOLDING INDUSTRIAL DOORSETS (Q Door)
COMPONENTS:

Panels

Double skinned, PU-foamed steel sections, with an interlocking hinged joint offering the best weather protection.

Operation

Q Doors are available with either manual or electrical operation.

All electrically operated Q Doors feature automatic locking. Manual Q Doors are operated and locked as standard on the inside using a padlock on an external cremone bolt. As an extra the cremone bolt can be fitted with a cylinder lock.

Operating motor

bi-folding industrial doors fitted at fire station

The motor is simple, reliable and extremely durable, which dramatically reduces maintenance costs. Two versions of motor unit, with closing rates of 8 or 12 seconds, reduce heat loss by matching the motor speed with your access speed, be it vehicle or pedestrian.

Door holder (manual doors only)

When in the open position, door leafs are held back with the door holder for safety. The door holder engages and locks when the door is opened and is manually disengaged before closing. Alternatively, doors that open inwards can be fitted with a gas spring controlled door holder with a semi-automatic opening mechanism. When the set time limit is reached the door holder deactivates and allows the door to close automatically.

Safety factor

In the event of an electrically operated door meeting an obstruction when operating, sensors built within the sealing system are activated to disengage the door movement. Further safety devices are available dependent on requirements and operational circumstances.

Sealing system

Certain doors are equipped with a sealing system specifically designed to withstand ageing, consisting of four corner-sealing joints placed around the door. This rubber sealing system gives our doors the market’s best tested insulation and tightness values.

Windows

Windows can be placed in variable combinations and sizes in selected industrial door panels. Standard windows have aluminium frames with the option of powder coating. All window frames are constructed with an open thermal bridge and toughened insulated double glazed glass as standard.

Finish

The range is typically finished with galvanised steel as standard, or you can choose from a range of 75 standard powder coat colours. This option gives the door a strong yet aesthetically attractive finish, which is typically applied to home appliances and office furniture. Specification of any BS or RAL colour is also available.

Horizontal sliding folding doors

HORIZONTAL FOLDING INDUSTRIAL DOOR (C Door)

wide span horizontal folding industrial door

COMPONENTS:

Panels

The C Door panel is designed on the “lazy tong” principle where vertical pickets interconnect with steel bars producing a collapsible gate system. The assembly arrangement is made from galvanized steel cold rolled sections.

Operation

These industrial doors are available as a manual, single or three phase electric. Electrically-operated C Doors have a gearing system that allows torque limiting device to prevent door damage through a continuous chain driven system.

In the event of an electrically-operated door meeting an obstruction when operating, the torque limit operates the micro switch to switch off the mains supply to the motor.

Finish

The range is typically finished with galvanised steel as standard, or you can choose from a range of 75 standard powder coat colours. This option gives the door a strong yet aesthetically attractive finish, which is typically applied to home appliances and office furniture. Specification of any BS or RAL colour is also available.

4. What are the benefits of installing one of HAG Ltd.’s doors?

5. Specifications

overhead sectional industrial door fitted with personnel door. Yellow powder coated.

All of our doors are made bespoke to your project. There are a number of variations to the standard doors that will benefit site-specific conditions, including the type of operation, locking, door hardware, colour and vision panels.

When specifying a door or shutter for a project it’s important to consider the following:

Product specification may change and it is advisable to consult with HAG Ltd. technical advisors before specifying or ordering.

6. Compliance

Testing must be carried out to EN 13241-1:2003 +A1:2011 ensuring the safe build of each door system, confirmed by a CE Label and a Declaration of Performance Certificate (in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation 2011).

HAG Ltd. has performed rigorous tests and investigation from all suppliers to ensure total compliance, and to give confidence to all customers that each bespoke door is supplied fully legally compliant.

If you are unsure if your door or shutter is compliant, check the CE marking for EN 13241-1:2003 +A1:2011 or call HAG Ltd. The Door Specialists on 0800 072 3444.

7. Maintenance

Ongoing maintenance of your door or shutter is vital to maintain their working performance and ensuring the greatest possible longevity. A regular maintenance contract can extend the lifespan of your Security product whilst reducing the risk of issues developing into breakdowns. It’s surprising how an ignored minor damage can advance into long lasting deterioration, resulting in costly repairs and disruption of your daily business routine.

According to the Regulation 5 of the Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, powered doors must be “checked at regular intervals, as appropriate, by inspection, testing, adjustment, lubrication, repair and cleaning.”

The current Health and Safety Act 1974 Regulation 18 stipulates that all equipment should be:

All doors should be serviced regularly to correspond with approved construction schemes and must comply with new European regulations. Failure to do so can result in prosecution and can invalidate your insurance and warranty.

A pro-active door maintenance schedule involves the inspection of your door products and replacement of any worn components, keeping downtime to your business to an absolute minimum. Our engineers will visit your site with a comprehensive selection of parts so that a great many repairs can be done then and there.

8. FAQs

Generally 3-4 weeks

All our industrial doors ship with a 12 month parts and labour warranty which is backed up by a 24 hour, 365 day emergency call-out service. Many customers opt for an HAG extended warranty with a customisable maintenance contract. Our estimating team will be happy to quote you for this. Please see our Industrial Door Repair page for more details

Our Sales and Technical Teams are always prepared to advise on the adaptability of all HAG products, therefore we gladly undertake those projects that may require ‘that little bit extra’.

There are 4 main differences in industrial doors:

  • Method of opening and closing
  • Insulation
  • Through vision
  • Price

A doorset is a whole door system. It includes the door leaf, door frame, glazing, seals and intumescents, hinges, door furniture, finish, signage and door closer mechanism. It is defined by BS EN 12519 as “supplied complete with all essential parts from a single source”.

A doorset is designed and tested as one unit by the manufacturer. It is this doorset that is certified to the appropriate standards and issued with a certificate of conformance. Because a doorset is manufactured in a factory, it can be produced to tight tolerances under high quality assurance standards and rigorously tested prior to delivery to site.

In the door industry, the term ‘door’ is frequently used as shorthand for a ‘doorset’.
